    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A great experience especially in terms of responsibility given, diversity of work provided and people I worked with.

  • A very helpful set of colleagues who took time out to teach and help me with some of my projects.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A very structured programme set by the management which meant we were provided with guidance and support whenever required.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depended on the project, but usually fairly busy in the office. Some days were much busier due to deadlines, however I found that I was given more work after completing several tasks to a good standard.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A great deal of responsibility was given such as large commissioning projects which was definitely the highlight of my placement year.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Apart from some technical skills gained, I have learned to be more organised and manage my time better. I have also develop strong communication and presentational skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I would be on a different desk each day which gave me the chance to introduce myself to more people on my floor. People are always happy to take time out to have a coffee and a chat if you ask.

  • Very structured placement programme set.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Really valuable opportunity for us and I don't think many other firms/companies invest as much as they do for students as they do here. Training was very good and an eye opening experience

  • I received a job offer, the organisation is very friendly with good communication and prospects for promotion.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Socials organised, and end of placement celebration dinner. All the interns lived together in student accommodation so plenty of chances to hang out in the evenings after work and during weekends

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working and living in Peterborough, pretty much dependent on where you go and how often. Prices reasonable. Our accommodation was provided.

  • Easy to get to places by tube/bus/taxi, convenient living in Peterborough

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Events organised, activities with other scholars. Also plenty of clubs and networks.
