The Role
Excellent practical work experience. main project was technical-based, had a lot of data-based smaller projects as well.
I felt well-valued by my line manager and department head.
Line manager had 2 meetings a month with me.
The first week was a bit slow as I had to get to speed with the department, from the second week through to the very end I had a constant stream of work, so I was very satisfied.
I had complete autonomy in my main project, with the opportunity to go off-site to any sites if it helped me in my project.
The skills I have picked up at NG will certainly help me in applying for jobs in oil & gas.
The Company
Very relaxed, conversations were commonly informal with a lot of banter, allowed to listen to music via earphones throughout the day. People always brought in cakes/snacks for the rest of their team.
My line manager had only been told that he would be having me in his department with 2/3 weeks notice. However, he managed to deal with that very well and consistently gave me work, although I think that coincidence has a lot to do with that.
The company allowed me to go on numerous in-line inspections. They also allowed me to go to off-site maintenance visits, off-site installations, maintenance plants and company presentations on new technologies, all to further enhance my personal development.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I have an early assessment centre with them in a few days.
The Culture
The local town, Leamington spa is a bit quiet during the summer so not great, but interns still met up on fridays for a drink.
Typical rent for 1 bed place is about 250-400pcm, depends what you really need in terms of location and quality of flat/room/house.
Leamington Spa is very quiet during the summer, so not too great.
Friday evening drinks, new net events i.e. a hog roast in July with olympic-themed sports day... was fun!
