The Role
Overall I enjoyed the placement, however I believe I was at the company during a transition period in which the company is improving considerably
I have made some good friends with the colleagues and I have never felt like the "Placement student"
There was a lack of support during my year here, but towards the end of my placement as agile methodologies are being implemented a lot more effectively there is a lot more support and guidance
Throughout my placement I have had to use my initiative and create work for myself, which I do mind to an extent but others may find this tedious
During my year I felt like an "expert" especially where the physical and virtual infrastructure was concerned, many of my colleagues would come to me for advice and I would also manage these environments by myself
The skills I have learnt will hopefully stay with me for the rest of my work life, it has directed me with my final year project and I'm sure the skills I've learnt this year will give me a huge boost when I find a graduate placement
The Company
The atmosphere can be very quiet most of the time, but people would always stop and talk if you needed anything
The interview process was very well organised and at Clearswift there is a transition period were the last year's placement student would mentor the next years student for a month which is very helpful when finding your feet.
HR have been running personal development workshops which have been developing the students soft skills, however on the technical side there has not been any sort of form of formal training
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
I have been offered the chance to work at Clearswift again which I am very much considering as I believe the company will be in a very good place this time next year
The Culture
There are only 4 placement students per year, but we all have similar interests so we have all got on very well
Reading is a nice town which is only around 40 minutes from London, considering this it is quite cheap given the location
I have been living in Reading as I go to University here for the last two years so I was already well accustomed to the local nightlife!
Clearswift provide giving days a few times over the year which is a great experience to do something for the local community, there are meals out every so often aswell.
