About You
For me, the placement provided an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of what it would be like to work in a law firm, and provided me with a range of opportunities to ask questions, experience the varieties of work carried out by commercial lawyers, and understand the challenges and benefits of following this particular career path.
I was kept consistently busy, with work being offered from many different areas of my department. I was given a combination of exercises and 'real' work to do, and was supported throughout.
Everyone, from the HR staff, the trainees and the associates that I was able to receive work from or even just chat to, were very helpful and supportive. Everyone offered help, and I knew I would be able to turn to whoever necessary if I needed to.
As a non-lawyer taking part in the scheme, the information I received and experience I gained were vital in confirming to me that this was a career path I wanted to follow.
The Company
The inductions were thorough and helpful and the department had a large number of tasks for me to work on that kept me busy throughout the week.
Whether in the office, in assessments with the other vac schemers or on a social in the evening, the atmosphere was always friendly and communal.
Very much so. I was exposed to a large amount of full time lawyers which helped me gain a clear picture of what a job at the firm would be like.
The culture of 'work hard, play hard' that is offered on the graduate website for the firm was definitely accurate based on my experiences which I enjoyed very much.
Everything Else
I wasn't originally expecting to be paid for the week, but we were reimbursed well for the work we did.
We had a number of opportunities to talk with other people within the firm, we had department presentations from the trainees and I was taken to meet a member of the corporate team by my supervisor as I showed an interest in learning more about that particular part of law.
I enjoyed the experience immensely, and think I have gained a lot from it in terms of understanding my career motivations and goals.
