The Role
I enjoyed the job as everyday was different, but the department was not well organised and you could go from no work to way too much veru quickly
Most members of staff in the department knew my name but didnt seem to want to speak. others were very welcoming
The managers rarely spoke to staff or provided support in situations when required to operational staff
Either had nothing to do or far too much work to do and was even expected to do additional work when people were on holiday whilst the lab was busy
Far too much for the wage i was paid
I think the skills i learnt will be very useful for me and i currently use them at university and will continue to do so
The Company
There was a good atmosphere at times and others it was awful. seemed very segregated and depended very much on who was around and their moods
was well organised and gave us contact details of other placement students so we could meet up before we started work and speak to each other
Training was minimal and was more of an as and when you made a mistak approach. was generally delivered through asking collegues when you were unsure on work or what to do in that situation and would be better if you did not spen your first week solidly reading SOP's. I know that they have however responded to this problem as it was raised as an issue within the department when i had been there for several months
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I would go back and work for them but in a different department which was better organised
The Culture
I got along very well with a couple of the other students and still keep in contact with with them. The company made an effort for us to meet prior to work. we organised things between ourselves
Was a very expensive area to live in and had to travel 40 miles per day as a result of the low wage. They have increased the student wage as they realised it was unfair. There was a great bar with a happy hour which lasted for several hours which was always amazing
Pretty good nightlife but very expensive and i felt overpriced for what it was when compared to leeds a short journey away
there were plenty of activites organised such as snowboarding at escape
