The Role
The work placement was a very enjoyable experience which I would recommend to anyone interested in pursuing a career in software development.
My colleagues were extremely kind and helpful during my time here. A real pleasure to work with that made me feel as if I was part of them team from day one.
My manager and mentor challenged me to perform to my potential but were patient with me when I needed help or did not understand something. I could not have asked for better guidance/supervision.
I was kept quite busy during my internship. The work I was given was difficult, especially as someone entering as a complete newbie to the technologies used. However keeping really busy allowed me to learn very quickly so I perceive it as a good thing.
The work I was carrying out was real work that would be eventually implemented and used by the wider company.
The communication skills I have learned here will be invaluable, and the coding experience I have gained will also be extremely useful should I pursue a career in software.
The Company
Although it is an office job which could be a little dull at times, the atmosphere was generally very good and the team didn't hesitate to stop and chat for a while if something interested was read on the news etc. Although it was always hard-working, the environment was relaxed and enjoyable.
The placement was very well organised, allowing me to work my way up from learning from first principles to carrying out real programming work which required a lot of thinking and use of what I had learned in previous weeks.
My mentor spent a lot of time helping me with my work, especially in the beginning, when I'm sure he had better things to be getting on with! He was always happy to drop what he was doing and lend me a hand when I needed it, although I mostly tried to work things out for myself.

Company Parties/Events
If an intern does well during their time here, they will be invited for a second round of interviewing for a graduate job. However this process seems quite competitive.
The Culture
As there is over 30 interns, it is very easy to be sociable and find people to hang out with at lunch time or outside of work hours.
Although Enfield is not quite in London, it still does somewhat suffer from a higher cost of living. However the provided company houses can be rented for reasonably good value (£9/day for interns)
Enfield is a small town with not much night life going on apart from a few pubs scattered about. However, Enfield is quite close to London (only a 30 minute train ride away) so it is very possible to seek a more vibrant night life scene if desired.
The company has a lot different sports and clubs that can be participated during lunch or after work.
