The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed the placement, the work has been interesting and engaging, and it has definitely helped me to decide that this is the career path I would like to follow
Everybody was very friendly and supportive; I didn't feel like a general dogsbody as the only placement student in the office, I was given responsibility and felt like my work contributed
Everybody who I completed work for was more than happy to explain the projects and help me when I needed extra advice
I was given work by people working all over the office and as such I had a long list of projects each week
Much more than I expected to be given! At first I was only given small jobs to do, but as time progressed people were more willing to give me engaging and interesting projects that were more important
Perhaps not so much in my degree as it is very academic and theoretical, but in terms of dissertation ideas this has been useful, and for the future it has been invaluable
The Company
Everyone was friendly and fun, it was never dull!
Generally it was very good - the office was in the middle of a refurbishment and hence we arrived in temporary offices on my first day, meaning that everyone, not just the people organising the placement, were a little disorganised and living out of boxes!
I was taught how to use all the computer systems, if there was anything to do with the projects I did not understand they would teach me - they were always happy to train me to use the programs I had not come across before
Company Parties/Events
I would love to be employed by them in the future! Once I have completed my degree and a possible masters course I will be applying for a job on the Grad Scheme
The Culture
I was the only placement student in the office but the whole office had a few socials, such as a colleagues leaving dinner
I lived outside of Oxford and it was fine, though the petrol costs to get into work (and home at the weekends) were pretty big
I didn't experience it as I was at home on the weekends
There was not a lot in the month that I was there, though I was invited to join a few events
