About You
It was really interesting to spend a week in a department. I got to see how they work and look into what it is they do
It feels much more like you are a member of the team even just for a week. It doesn't feel like it's individuals fighting for themselves but a group effort.
I had meetings with my supervisor who at first asked me where I was, and what I was looking to get out of the experience. He then checked in on me everyday to see that I had work to do and didn't need anything.
I got to see how a law firm works but it would also help even if I wanted to go into something else. I worked in a team, learned and practiced skills such as researching in a business environment as well as getting used to an office.
The Company
There was an induction, a networking lunch and a presentation to prepare. Apart from that we were generally left to work with the department.
People were busy but it was interesting work. People seemed to be very interested in what they were doing and delivering the best possible servvice they could.
In a week, I did a lot of research for different cases and reported back to associates and my supervising partner. I wrote a report on a CMA decision and I also did some proof reading of documents.
I could see how everyone in the office worked on a day-to-day basis. I also performed a couple of tasks that as a trainee, I would expect to do.
You could see the firm's culture in the office and we also had some meetings with HR about what the company is like and what it is trying to achieve.
Everything Else
I worked for a week in the firm and did not expect to get paid or reimbursed for the experience.
I attended a department meeting and was also introduced by the buddy to the people in the department.
We had a networking lunch where we had the opportunity to talk to associates and partners.
I heard about charity opportunities for full time staff.
The experience was great even if you just want to see what working in an office in London is like.
