About You
The trainees and solicitors had time to explain tasks properly and answer any questions without making you feel rushed.
High quality work was given, the sort that a trainee would normally undertake. It was a very useful insight into the sort of thing that trainees do and how the work is done at RPC.
The Company
As well as doing work in our departments, there was also social events organised and a business project.
We were given a great insight into the way that RPC is run including being given talks on branding, social media and the firms strategy. We also had very good IT and library training.
The trainees and other solicitors answered honestly when I asked them questions, and I saw first hand what working at RPC was like because I spent one week in two different departments: a commercial department and an insurance department. This allowed me to see how things worked and the similarities and differences between different sorts of departments. It was also very useful to talk to other 'Summer Schemers' about their experiences in the departments they had been allocated.
As previously mentioned we had some talks on various aspects of the firm, this helped to understand the culture in addition to experiencing it and talking to the people that work there about it.
Everything Else
We were paid £275 per week and RPC kindly (and unexpectedly) put money on our pass/lunch card as well.
We had socials, speed networking events, networking lunches and opportunities to ask questions throughout the two week period.
We had a few socials including one at 'Bounce', a bar with table-tennis tables in. I thought this was great as it was something different to do and automatically gave us something to talk about with the trainees who joined us that evening.
Sports Teams, Pro Bono, Blogs, Trainee Twitter feeds.
I had a great two weeks, was exposed to fantastic quality work that gave me a great insight in to RPC and the legal profession, and had the opportunity to network with a lot of interesting people.
