The Role
It was very enjoyable, gave me a great insight into both my business line but also the company. I definitely found out that this is a company I'd like to work for.
Even at the interview stage I felt respected and valued by the associates at Towers Watson. The whole team, from the analysts right through to the directors made me feel welcome, ensured they came to introduce themselves and speak to me and also make sure that I had everything I needed.
I felt that I was able to ask about any problem or query, big or small. I was also set up with intro meetings at the beginning as well as training seminars.
I was provided with plenty of opportunities to work and contribute. As long as I had capacity there were opportunities for me to work on various projects.
The work I was completing was going to be used for clients, and for internal use by TW for analysis purposes. To this extent I was given plenty of responsibility. I was also trusted to do the work by myself, without any extra supervision, and to also be confident to discuss the work I produced with the project manager.
It gave me a much greater sense of how my degree skills will be used in the workplace. But it also helped me to develop better analytical skills and much better research skills.
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed, but professional. As long as you were doing your work there was not a problem with listening to music or having general chit chat with other employees.
The internship is very well organised with an intern group project and many different induction events and social events. I also started 2 weeks after all the other interns but have not felt that this has affected my experience at all.
I received a fair amount of training in the business area as well as a view across the other lines of business. I was also invited to sit and chat to all of the project directors at the company to find out their career paths and to also talk about the company and their work.
Company Parties/Events
There is a good chance of being offered a graduate job at the end of the internship. Although it is certainly not a given.
The Culture
The interns are spread over the whole country but whenever the interns have been in the same place at once the socialising has been great and there have always been events to have a more informal chat with people.
Being in the centre of London you cannot expect it to be cheap, but provided you look hard enough it can be affordable.
Great bars, restaurants and pubs. And there are numerous clubs to visit all over the city. There is definitely something for everyone.
Plenty of socials and events, including lunches, drinks, sports events, and many others.
