The Role
I really enjoyed my internship with Atkins and would recommend others if given the opportunity to do an internship with the company.
The team was very welcoming and friendly and I felt the work I was doing was of value to my colleagues.
The support and guidance was excellent and could not have been any better. Any question I had was answered straight away and my colleagues always made sure I was understanding what I was doing.
At some stages in the internship I was slightly less busy than usual but as soon as this was noted more work was given.
I was given exactly the level of responsibility I expected in an engineering placement. With the projects I was involved in I was trusted to make my own judgements and to add in my own input but obviously encouraged to seek guidance when required.
I received a lot of training and exposure to the software and work done within the department which really gave me an insight to what a 'real engineering' job would entail.
The Company
Very well organised and flexible with start dates.
The team dedicated a LOT of time to me and making sure I knew what I was doing and were always sending me useful information that may help with my project. The team always took the time to sit down and explain anything with me that was unclear or talk me through anything I was interested in.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have not spoken with the company regarding this yet but will be looking to discuss my options of entering into the graduate programme at the end of my internship.
The Culture
There are not a huge number of interns in the office I am working in this summer but the graduate social committee have lots of social events that they involve the summer students in. During the placement the department have had a few events that everyone gets involved in such as the annual summer socials.
Glasgow has a great social scene and is relatively cheap.
Sports teams and some nights out after work.
