    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everyone was friendly and I got on with everybody in the office. Activities were organised, although not specifically for the interns, for the graduates roughly once a month. Also weekly rugby and football games made sure you could integrate with the rest of Atkins' departments.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They all welcomed me with open arms and had me working on proper jobs from the beginning.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was always there to answer questions and give me guidance on any job I had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Being a consultancy, the work came in waves so at points you were working hard to get reports done before deadlines but other times you needed to ask around.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Not a lot of responsibility because the projects were small and were checked and amended several times before being sent to the employer. However each job you were given became your own individual project.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed to be a lot more proficient with MS packages and it also gave me an insight into what working for a consultancy company is like.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was friendly and up for a joke but generally hard working.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There weren't any large projects available when I joined so I worked smaller ones which is harder to organise. However, I was set up with a computer and an account from the beginning meaning I could start work straight away.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a few Atkins based lunch and learns but no real training was invested in.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They seem to be interested in employing more graduates in the future

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Towards the end there was but it was difficult tracking them all down around the different departments since there weren't very many. Mainly we joined in the graduates social events which were more well planned and subsidised.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Glasgow is cheap!

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Loads of pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs meant there was always something to do in the evenings.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Rugby and football was organised weekly but otherwise climbing, drinks etc. with colleagues were organised between ourselves.

    4/5
