The Role
This has been a far more beneficial year than I predicted, I have learnt not only skills specific to my job role, but life skills that will help me to launch a successful career after university.
The biggest surprise to me was the level of responsibility and value placed upon my work. I was accepted as a 'full' member of the team and certainly not just a student brought in for cheap labour and to make the coffees!
Both my line manager as well as my extended team are extremely approachable and at no point have I felt unable to ask questions or seek help from any of them. This has really helped me build up a confidence in my work and complete difficult tasks without feeling overwhelmed.
There is always plenty to keep me busy and deadlines to adhere to - but not enough to be stressed or panicked over.
Whilst I always have support from the rest of the team, my work is trusted and regarded highly to the point that nobody feels the need to 'check or validate what I do before submitting it to Corporate or any other superior body. This is very satisfying and whilst at times could be quite daunting, I feel that I have learnt a lot from the experience.
Everything I have learnt will not only aid me specifically in my final year of studying, but has set me up to begin what is hopefully going to be a long and successful career.
The Company
Being part of a relatively small team (within a large open plan office) has meant that the atmosphere among the team is a great balance of professionalism with an equally great sense of friendliness and teamwork.
I had a formal structure outlined from the very first day containing objectives and goals. This structure however was adaptable and flexible depending where my strengths fell as well as allowing me to focus on the areas I was more interested in.
We were lucky enough to complete many different training modules as part of the placement year including; presentation skills, meeting etiquette, confidence building, 6 Sigma training and much more.
