The Role
The first few weeks were very slow starting as it had not been previously determined what project I would be starting on and what work was available for me. Also issues with the IT system meant that the computer I had been assigned couldn't be used properly to access a lot of work that was required for me to complete e.g Skillport.
My colleagues were very warm and welcoming and always willing to help.
My line manager offered support and is easy to go to for any queries that I had.
The first few weeks there was not a lot of work available. When I was assigned onto a project some days were busybut others were still very slow as time consuming work was not always available.
As I am only working for a few months, not much responsibility was shared. I was only drip fed information about the projects and also was given one task at a time, not being given multiple tasks to complete.
This has slightly devleoped on my experience from previous placement, but it has mainly just refreshed the knowledge that I aquired in my previous placement year.
The Company
It is a much quieter office and with the layout of it then it is more unsociable. Even though the people are friendly, it isn't designed for a vibrant atmosphere.
I had problems on my first day with the computer due to it not being set up in time for the start of my placement. Also I struggled to get hold of serious, time consuming work for the first few weeks. Apart from this then the placement started out fine.
I was invited to a few ICE and CPD events but noone asked me about my chartership development objectives.
Company Parties/Events
I would happily work back with Atkins but in a different office.
The Culture
There were events organised, but only on a monthly basis. The attendance to these were not great and because of location then it meant struggling with finding transport to and from these events.
The value for money of the social events were excellent.
To experience nightlife I would have had to travel further away from home towards Liverpool. This meant struggling even more to get back home. There was nothing happening where the office was located.
Some activities were organised but these seemed to get cancelled due to lack of attendance by others.
