About You
I really enjoyed my time at Hogan Lovells and this was largely down to the friendliness of every person I met at the firm.
I felt very included in each group, was introduced to the whole team, and was given a variety of work from a number of different lawyers.
The training sessions at the start of the scheme were great for learning how to use the intranet and other research sources. We had a supervisor in each group who could answer any further questions and they always found the time to explain things clearly. We also each had a trainee mentor who we could contact before and throughout the scheme.
The type of work carried out during a vacation scheme is very different to university work but the training we received in research will be very useful in the future. The networking opportunities were fantastic.
The Company
There was a good balance between presentations and workshops and time in the groups spread out over the three weeks.
Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly.
There were training sessions at the start of the scheme followed by a number of workshops throughout the scheme which we took part in as a group or in smaller teams.
We sat in three different groups (one per week) which was a great way to understand how each department operates. I was given responsibility and my own tasks to complete so I could understand what it would be like to be a trainee there, but also sat in on conference calls with associates and partners. This meant I was exposed to a wide variety of different work.
Spending three weeks in the firm is the best way to understand how friendly it is but also get a feel for what it is like to work in the different teams and groups.
Everything Else
£300 per week
We had lunches with partners, several talks from partners and associates, evening events with trainees, a summer reception with future joiners... plenty of chances to network.
These were great opportunities to meet trainees and ask any questions as well as have fun and get to know the other vacation scheme students. Dinner at the Ivy was a highlight and the evening bowling was a lot of fun.
Talking to the trainees was a good way to find out about these and we had a talk about the wide range of pro bono opportunities which was very impressive.
I would definitely recommend this vacation scheme
