The Role
Not really the area of engineering I enjoy, wasn't doing anything technical, just all very dull work.
Valued as a person but not in terms of being able to help out and be trusted with things.
The odd comment, but no regular checking up, never checked if I had enough work to do. Very poor.
Out on site we had very long days with lots to do. In the office I often found myself with nothing to do, making any tasks I was set last much longer than they should as there was nothing to do!
Lots of responsibility in terms of inspections and reporting, but no guidance given so felt very out of my depth
Not an area I want to go into, and even if it was the tasks given to me on the placement were not technical or demanding enough to contribute towards degree studies. Health and Safety training was useful, and seeing how a truly global company works.
The Company
Lots of people out on site all the time. Also large age gap between myself and colleagues.
Very very poor. The department was not ready for me when I arrived, with no work planned or even possibilities as to what I could get involved in. This led to much of the first week spent simply sat at a desk.
Some health and safety training.
Possibly in a different sector of the business, but if offered I would probably turn any offer down at the current time.
The Culture
No other placement students.
Lived at home so it was good.
