The Role
There were some ups and downs but as a whole I greatly enjoyed the experience.
As billable deliverables, my work was highly valued by colleagues and our client.
I was not given a satisfactory amount of support during my first month into a placement. I had 2 weeks notice that I was not working in London but that I would be working at a client site near Birmingham. In addition, granted that my position was the exception to the rule, the 2 day induction did not prepare me for what to expect on the client side. That aside, the year following from that I have been able to develop significantly as a professional due to the combined efforts of my project team and foundation.
Due to the nature of my eventual role as a training consultant, my workload was driven by payment milestones of the wider project. This meant that there were times when I was extremely busy and other times when I had less to do than I would have liked.
Being an intern at IBM gave me the ability to control how much confidence and responsibility was placed on me by demonstrating my competence. My management continually gave me more challenging work to complete as I progressed in the project - one example is that I was the project's sole SME for a development product.
I feel that there were plenty of transferable skills (presenting, organising/prioritising work, communicating, teamwork etc) that will assist me in achieving the grade I want in final year. These skills will also serve as a solid foundation for my future career.
The Company
While everyone is generally busy, there's always a fair bit of banter going around the office.
Despite the beginning of the placement being somewhat difficult to on-board to, I feel my day job, with several checkpoints and intern development courses were very well organised.

It was only when I got to grips with IBM's business model that I fully understood the vast range of opportunities available. Shadowing and networking throughout the year has allowed me to make an informed opinion of what career path i'd like to take.
The Culture
I was the only intern (and there were only a few graduates) at our client site which is located in a quiet suburb.
It was fairly cheap with a major metropolitan city nearby.
The immediate area had next to no nightlife but with Birmingham nearby
