The Role
The internship was very well organised and there were lots of social events for interns to meet up. I had a really friendly team and got on with everyone really well which made it more enjoyable.
I felt I got on with my team very well, but sometimes there wasn't much important work for me to do because I was only there 8 weeks and it usually takes at least 6 months to train someone to provide a useful contribution to the team.
I had a lot of support from my manager and the rest of the team, they would always answer any questions and sit with me to explain things.
I was working in support so the nature of the role is that the workload varies from day to day but it was quite rare that I was bored or too busy.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility to carry out tasks that would have a large impact if not completed correctly and accurately.
I'm not sure how much it will help with my degree, since I was working in tech support and I am studying for a maths degree, but I think some of the skills will definitely be useful if I go into this area of work, and transferrable if not.
The Company
There was a very good atmosphere in the office generally, everyone was very friendly and socialised outside of work too.
The internship was extremely well organised and there were always social events put on for the interns and lots of information given before the internship started.
There was a lot of training on offer both during the inital training week before we started work at the desk, and during the length of the internship.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I don't yet know if I will get an offer since I haven't had my end review, but I think there is a lot of scope to be offered a job either in the area you have interned in or in another area.
The Culture
There was a brilliant social scene because there were lots of free events organised - the trip to Ice Bar was particularly good. We also all went on nights out and days out together outside of these organised events - we went for drinks every friday and met up in London sometimes on the weekends.
Everything was really expensive, to be expected in London, but we were well paid so it wasn't too much of an issue for most people.
Being in London you have endless amounts of choice for places to go on nights out.
There was an intern touch rugby league and lots of societies within the bank that run their own events. There were a lot of events organised for women to encourage women into banking and to netowrk with other women in the bank.
