The Role
Really enjoyable experience, everyone really makes an effort to include you and make sure you are always learning and making the most of your internship.
It is helpful to identify your own outstanding skills and relay these to your team members so you can help out with any tasks the team have.
You are always given feedback and there is a mid and end review so you always know if there is anything you need to work on.
If your manager is away or busy it is up to you to find work, but there is usually something you can learn or work on to occupy yourself.
You get to work on the same projects the rest of the team do, though there were checks in place to check for mistakes to mitigate risk, but I saw this as a good thing.
Doing project work really prepares you for project work at University, and I now know exactly what skills I want to pick up at University to help me in a career here.
The Company
People are generally willing to talk and people are enthusiastic about the work they do.
Really good organisation, everyone had their own desk and email account set up when they came and all relevant software for each person was provided. The networking events were pulled off really well so people never felt uncomfortable.
Really well delivered training is provided. There is general training, introduction to financial products, communication skills and there are division specific training event. My division received an outstanding Presentation Skills day where I really felt I improved my style. There are also online training courses available if you need to brush up on any skills.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
During the internship you can speak to graduate starters, people who have completed graduate schemes and experienced professionals so you can get an idea of how flexible the company is with regards to progressing through the company and moving around.
The Culture
As everyone is of a similar age and in the same boat, there is a really good social atmosphere and the social events put on by the Campus Team really help the different teams integrate, so I've made friends from all different divisions.
Yes, it is London, but you just need to watch what you are paying for.
Plenty of variety around the city for all kinds of people.
As well as all the networking events, which were most weeks, there is also a gym and many of us went to touch rugby training sessions every week, which is a really good way to try something new and get to know other interns.
