The Role
My teams were very friendly and helpful, I got a lot of coaching and responsibility and there was mostly a good amount of work to do.
I was coached, asked to do plenty of client-facing activities, and they tried to ensure I always had work to do and understood what I was doing.
PWC is excellent at this. They assign you a people-manager and buddy from the year above, and everyone in the team is generally eager to help, even if they're busy.
For the most part there was plenty to do, although it wasn't intense or high-pressure. On a couple of days the work did dry up.
I spoke alone with the client and did testing with them, and prepared individual tasks and assignments mostly on my own, although with coaching. I also made some phone calls to gather information and attended high-level meetings.
It benefited me in terms of work ethic, how to present work, how to speak and hold oneself in a professional manner, as well as technical accounting know-how.
The Company
People were friendly and did have general chat, and we went out for lunch although we generally just brought it back to the office to eat whilst on our computers. It was comfortable and I got along with pretty much everyone.
The training was great, resources ensured all interns had clients to go to and everything was really well done - gave a very good impression.
A full first week of training was full-on and very well prepared, with great coaches/teachers. We also had a development day halfway through to talk about presenting and personal commercial awareness and branding, and informally people were constantly giving advice.
Got an offer and there are loads of things possible in the firm, including switches between lines of service and offices.
The Culture
All the interns in assurance are spread out on different clients, but initially in training when we were together it is a good vibe.
Gatwick isn't too bad.
I was working in Crawley, which has a lively town centre but at the end of the day is quite a small place.
There was a summer ball and some sporting activities, but in 6 weeks there isn't too much to get involved in.
