The Role
It was a fantastic experience, especially working in London and Canary Wharf
All of the work I did was very well received and I got on well with the team. I was even nominated for an award for one piece of work! I've been asked to come back to that team specifically.
My buddy was fantastic. I had a number of managers in various teams, who were always willing to help me with any questions/ queries. I wasn't given enough work, however.
Not very busy at all - I regularly asked for more work to do.
The tasks I was given were generally internal tasks which would make life easier for the team, and were by no means action critical.
This placement has been exactly what I needed in terms of the experience and guiding my future career choices, but i haven't taken much away from it in terms of skills. I've learnt a few new things, but nothing life-changing.
The Company
It was a good atmosphere generally, everyone was friendly and approachable, and the hot-desking meant that I met a lot of new people. Not much office banter, though.
Once I got into the team, the placement was well scheduled, but there should have been more done in terms of making people aware that I would be working with them in advance so they could find work for me to do. Also I only found out which department I was going to be in on the Tuesday morning turning up for my first day in the office - not even on the induction day! We should definitiely have been told this in advance.
Lots of poeple took time to explain to me what it is that they did, so I learnt a lot about the various operations in the company, but on such a short internship you can't expect them to invest much in us.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Looking very postitive and I've been asked to come back even before the start of the grad scheme
The Culture
Drinks every Friday night with the interns, and various other social events with the team on Thursdays
Standard London/Canary Wharf: £4.95 a pint. Accomodation is expensive but I used Airbnb and got a spare room for £20/night
Good bars in Canary Wharf, but expensive
Various opportunities for CSR events, but I didn't take advantage of them.
