The Role
I loved my job during placement, it gave me a great insight into a Comp and Ben department and I ensured I would also work with other teams to gain general HR experience
I felt I had been there forever and the team really welcomed me and included me on everything
My Development Manager was like a best friend and helped me in every area of my professional and personal life; my personal development was a real focus throughout the year
At first I was very bored, then I took on other roles and projects and became very busy, however I felt happier at times like this
I was given lots of responsibility safely secure with the knowledge that I had full support from the team if necessary
This was an amazing introduction in the world of HR and I now feel fully prepared for another HR role
The Company
Nice atmosphere although could sometimes be bitchy and 'clicky'
In HR it was perfectly organised, in areas outside of HR it was not very good with no focus on personal development
I went on at least 5 training courses during my year and had monthly team and individual meetings to focus on development
Flexi Time
National Travel
Working from home
IBM is a good company to work for and I really enjoyed it; however you do have to work hard and put effort in to make the most of your year there
The Culture
At least 100 IBM placement students were living in Portsmouth, wicked nightlife!
Nightlife in Portsmouth is really good with a good choice of bars pubs and clubs to choose from
Yes, trips were organised
