The Role
I really enjoyed my PwC internship within Assurance. I was honestly surprised at how fast the 6 weeks went because I was involved in a variety of work in a number of friendly client teams and was able to learn an awful lot about audit, I.T skills and soft skills.
As I was given real work that a first year associate would be given, I felt that I was really able to add value when I was working in my teams. Their appreciation was definitely communicated and it meant that I was given more challenging work when I performed well and was able to learn a lot.
At PwC, you are given a buddy as well as a People Manager to help you out throughout your time on the internship. My People Manager was there to answer all my questions and was very reassuring if I was stressed out about securing a graduate role at PwC! My Buddy was also extremely helpful and made sure he checked in with me on a regular basis to find out how I was progressing on the internship.
How busy I was on a daily basis depended on the project I was working on. If there were deadlines to be met, I was under a bit more pressure to get something done however I found that I was never bored with nothing to do. Being proactive in asking for more work and more responsibility on the internship is key because it demonstrates your enthusiasm and work ethic as well as the fact that it takes off some of the pressure for the other members of your team.
Due to the fact that I started the internship with no experience in assurance except for our training at the start of the internship, I wasn't able to have that much responsibility. However, after a week or so, once I had picked up some basics and as the internship progressed, I was able to gain more exposure to the audit process and really felt like I had some responsibility. This gave me a great insight into what the job would actually be like.
As well as accounting specific skills, I learnt a lot of soft skills that will definitely assist me for my final year at university and my career beyond that. Due to the fact that I had the opportunity to sit with people from a number of different grades, my confidence levels have defintitely improved. In addition to this, I am more comfortable with working in an office environment, have better Excel and PowerPoint skills and feel better equipped for the working world.
The Company
Everyone was super friendly and happy to help as well as keen to get to know the interns which was really nice!
Was extremely organised and well set out - I was extremely impressed!
Members of the audit team were happy to coach us through new concepts and wanted us to get involved with work as much as possible. The amount of training we recieved and effort that went into planning the internship really proved that the company was investing in us.

Still waiting to find out, but if I get a job with PwC, I will definitely take it!
The Culture
All of the interns in our office were really friendly and nice - however because we were working in the East Midlands office and everyone is driving, there is not much of a social scene in the office, except for one night out two weeks into the internship (which was fun!)
Quite low cost of living (Loughborough)! Also quite quiet because it was university holidays.
Only went on one night out which was pretty fun but quite quiet!
Unfortunately we missed out on the Away Day because all the interns had to be in London that day. Would have been nice to get involved in some more activities outside of work!
