The Role
Enjoyed it very much. Great learning experience and interesting insight into the world of Banking.
Can feel very valued dependent on which team you work with across the pooling system.
The management and support network (Buddy, Staffer, Development Officer, Mentor) are very open and willing to chat and answer any of your questions.
Given the nature of the work there is some waiting around, but it depends on your own ability to get work some time and show that you are keen.
Given the constraints of what an intern knows, you are given a certain amount of responsibility but it really does depend on who you work with and what team you work with.
The skills developed (time management, meeting deadlines under pressure, perseverance and analysis) are all very useful and should be of great use for my final year of university study.
The Company
Atmosphere was good, but again dependent on team and where you sit in the office.
Very well organised.
There was a week of training at the start where we were introduced to all things needed for the work we would do; Factset, Bloomberg, Accounting etc.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Will find out at the close of the internship (generally you find out on the final day).
The Culture
Yes, all the interns got on very well and even met up outside of work i.e. weekends.
London - expensive.
Nightlife in London is, of course, very good and the teams do make a concerted effort to get you out with them!
There are opportunities, but given the nature of the work in Investment Banking, sometimes you are not able to attend these activities.
