The Role
I enjoyed meeting the other interns and the people that work here are mostly really friendly and approachable. I also enjoyed some aspects of the work that I was doing but overall, my internship wasn't amazing and there are things that can be improved.
I don't feel that the work I was doing was particularly important and anyone could have done it. That being said, I did get to work with lots of different people across the team. I didn't really get the opportunity to be valued by my colleagues due to the nature of my work.
I would get regular emails from different people as I didn't have a proper manager. I was often left alone to work, which is good as it's realistic, but sometimes I had not work and didn't know what to do. We were supposed to be assigned a buddy, who is a recent graduate, and I had to ask for one as this didn't seem to have been organised. The buddy idea is a good one and with more organisation, it would be much more helpful to interns.
I often had periods of very little work to do. Towards the end of the internship, I met more people and was assigned work by them. The internship ranged between having no work to having 3 deadlines on the same day. It really depends on how well organised your internship is, if you are assigned to a project and what you are working on.
The work I was doing didn't really require any responsibility, which is to be expected as an intern. It would have been good to work with a graduate so see what to expect in terms of responsibility and work load.
I didn't work on anything technical or anything that required much thought but I did gain a lot of soft skills. I think I am more confident and can express my thoughts more clearly because I had to talk to a lot of people, some who were very senior. I learnt a bit about the structure of the business and the sort of training to expect which was good.
The Company
I was alone at a desk the majority of the time. The other people seemed to like their jobs though. Some of the other interns had a better time as they worked with graduates and in teams.
Not very organised. This is probably because I am in the first intake of interns for IT Advisory. The main issues would be admin, communication and not being prepared for us even though there were only a small group of us.
No training but on the whole, they seemed to be interested in us and wanted us to join them as a graduate.

I would definitely like to work for KPMG but I need to think about if I want to work in this area because I didn't really get a good impression of it. KPMG's culture is really relaxed and informal, which I like, and they seem to care about what their employees want.
The Culture
I think there were a couple of events - just an informal drinks thing with some grads. I did expect KPMG to organise better intern events. The interns got together a few times a week for drinks after work.
London obviously is expensive.
I didn't really go out but the other interns seemed to like it.
Not really other than drinks.
