About You
There was a lot of effort in planning events and ensuring we were learning as much as possible about life at the firm during the placement.
I had a trainee buddy who was always around to ask questions and support. The other members of the team were also always happy to answer any questions or help if you were looking lost.
I learnt a huge amount in the 3 weeks not just on a 'law' basis but about working in a office environment.
The Company
It was extremely well structured. There was a detailed schedule that we were emailed prior to coming.
We had a comprehensive induction day which outlined things like IT systems and research skills.
I feel I got a real insight into what it would be like as I was given tasks to do that the trainee would otherwise have been doing and during the social events with trainees there was plenty of opportunity to quiz them about life at the firm.
I was invited to an whole office event and end of month drinks which helped me to understand the culture. Also the daily presentations from each practice area gave an insight and an opportunity to ask questions of the partners/senior associates.
Everything Else
A good variety of events including partner lunch, end of month drinks, quiz night and bowling.
They were very good, varied and you felt you could relax and chat to people out of the office formalities which was nice.
We found out about Corporate Social Responsibility activites.
I would absolutely recommend this placement if you are thinking about a commercial law career. As well as getting to know what it would be like to work in Pinsent Masons, you can get a feel for whether this type of work would be for you.
