About You
Work was very varied and completely relevant involving no photocopying or coffee runs. Everyone was welcoming and there were many social events which meant you got to know people in the office quickly. Time also went incredibly fast, always a good sign!
I was integrated into my team very quickly. People remembered my name and took time to ask how I was getting on and whether I would like to get involved in what they were working on. You are treated like a real trainee.
I was assigned a trainee as a Buddy who was fantastic. She gave me plenty of worthwhile work to do whilst always being available for any questions I might have. Social events also offered plenty of opportunities to ask about what life in the firm is really like.
I did a variety of tasks which will be worthwhile for the future. These included proof reading, research assignments, creating reference sheets for clients, summarising news articles for a client's legal bulletin and performing due diligence tasks.
The Company
The placement was extremely structured and well organised. We received a time table at the beginning which more or less went to plan. There was only a miscommunication about one presentation but this was not a problem.
Like I said the firm is full of welcoming, friendly people. Trainees take you under their wing and make you feel like one of them. Socials like a swanky partner lunch, Fringe night and ghost tour also let you get to know poeple and it's a good environment to work in.
Every task I was asked to complete was well conveyed, leaving me with little questions. On the first day there is an induction which explains all IT and organisational elements. This was helpful.
Nothing is hidden, the firm is very open about what life is like. There are plenty of opportunities to ask questions and no one is too important to ask.
Again, the firm is very open about what they do and how they do it.
Everything Else
You receive £750 for the 3 weeks and are also reimbursed if you travel to another office on the induction day. Socials are also funded by the company.
There are a number of socials to get involved in. There is a partner lunch which was a highlight and then other evening events to get to know more junior staff.
The socials are well organised and funded by the firm - cannot complain!
There is a firm hockey team which they are very keen on getting everyone involved in. We also received a presentation from the corporate responsibility team which gave an insight into the firm's many schemes.
Absolutely, it was invaluable.
