The Role
I enjoyed the experiences that I gained throughout the whole year in all the different departments I was able to work in.
Every department and colleague was friendly and helpful whether that be someone I worked with daily, or someone I only spoke to over the phone occasionally.
Support was available at any time on any day required, and also throughout the experience in each department there was a designated supervisor to act as a main contact point.
This is an element of the placement that I really enjoyed as I love to be busy and with Lidl I could be busy everyday and be learning simultaneously throughout the year.
I was given a lot of responsibility very early on, and the level of responsibility progressed throughout the year as I became more confident and more experienced in the company.
Now I have worked in various departments in such a large and successful company, I will be able to relate the theories I learn at University to the real like experiences I have had this year. The skills I have developed have developed me as a person as well as a professional.
The Company
All departments have a different atmosphere, but each department had a really positive atmosphere and worked as a team for the best of the company.
The departments I worked in were aware of the purpose of my placement, and what it was I wanted to achieve throughout my time there. The organisation of the running of the whole year was clearly communicated to us at the beginning of the year, and it was followed.
Throughout the whole year we were able to join in with training days, and experience the training our colleagues took themselves. No matter which department I was in, I was given training in something to help me improve.

The percentage of past placement students applying for a job after University and getting a job they wanted is very high.
The Culture
When the placement students were involved in social events they were thoroughly enjoyable, and when we were in the region, colleagues were keen to involve us in social events.
I lived at home with my parents during my placement, which was approximately an hours drive from where I spent most of my placement, and so the cost of living was slightly less than it would have been if I was to live with my friends.
During our time in Head Office in London, the nightlife and general experience of the lifestyle was amazing. An amazing opportunity.
In the region there were various activities to join in with.
