The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, not only was I given a lot of responsibility I learn lots of new skills and made some great contacts and friends.
Everyone treats you as an employee not just an intern. I was given responsibilities that were more senior than expected. If I did something wrong I was helped not criticised.
Whenever I needed help my manager was always there, if I didn't know the answer I always had someone at work I could turn to for answers.
At the start of my placement there were times that I filled the day with research. I was the first intern in my role and I have now created a pack for future interns so they will always have work to do.
I was given a lot of responsibility; I had many meetings with senior leadership and given the opportunity to express my own ideas. I was also in charge of a new tracking tool for the company which lead me to training some of our American employees which was a great challenge.
I did a variety of tasks from answering phones to writing emails. Within my placement year I have learnt how a successful business is run, got involved in extra groups outside of work and done a lot of market research which will be valuable in my degree.
The Company
Within my placement I worked alongside engineers, this was a huge shock for me. The office was generally quiet which enabled me to get on with work and was always pro-active.
Towards the beginning of my placement I felt that more work should have been set and it did seem slightly unorganised. However as the months went on I was set more tasks.
Within the company there is online training tools, I also attended a facilitation course. However I did not receive too much work, many training was on the job training or I picked it up as I went along.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
There are many opportunities; the company has some great graduate programmes. Unfortunately these are not suited to my course but I now have an extended group of contacts which I will stay in contact with for future work.
The Culture
Yes the interns were all of similar age and we had socials at least once a month. There were also younger employees at the company who came out with us to, from going to watch the local rugby to going out for meals.
It is fairly pricy in the area however there are plenty of cheaper alternatives.
The nightlife was very good, as I went to university there I knew all the clubs.
There were many opportunities, including volunteering, dodge ball and other sports groups we set up.
