The Role
I was dreading the long hours that accountancy may bring but I found it enjoyable and not affecting any social aspect outside of work.
Unfortunately I changed division a number of times due to people being on holiday so it was difficult in the few months to find a grounding
I had one mentor to always be in contact with and it was great to be able to confide in that person who offered assitance and guidance alongside their own duties.
There were varying times when I would have a lot of work but then none at all, I think this was down to my colleagues sometimes being unable to provide me work either as I am not a qualified accountant yet or there was not much to do.
I was given a lot of responsibility on different tasks and always asked for more work or to assist when there was an opportunity.
I believe it helped me use concepts I've seen at university in a working environment and also more the ability to see what concepts are taught but not practised.
The Company
As I was more on client sites rather than in the office it is difficult to say with this.
It was great as we got a schedule at the beginning on the various social and in house learning activities we would go through whilst when we were in our own division it was a little less structured.
There were lots of elearning training and presentations from senior management which really showed that the company was willing to invest in its talent.
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a place on their audit graduate scheme next year and have accepted the offer.
The Culture
I really enjoyed the ability to mingle with like minded students, it created a great atmosphere.
Expensive in London but if you budget your money well you can do a lot of socialising, it's just the tube and taxi which get you.
Every Thursday the interns would arrange a night out which was a great opportunity mid week to just relax and get to know each other.
I didn't really get to experience this as I was quite busy during work and travelling but I am sure there are lots to be involved in.
