The Role
Indescribable placement year working for a global company like HP. The exposure on every level ranging from information, job opportunities to people was immense and unforgettable. This is not a make coffee and photocopy placement you are a full time employee with responsibility.
You are a significant contributing factor to the team - the responsibility you are given is amazing and can be very stressful at time but that is what built my character over the year. Having the ability to adapt and work under pressure.
I was very fortunate to have my full direct team her in the UK and furthermore have weekly catch ups with my manager and college. This was very beneficial as this help build our relationships and also helped keep me on track for the year.
Working in the digital space everything is moving constantly and you have to be on top of things. I was very busy day to day receiving over 100 emails a day on average. To begin this was overwhelming however as I settled in to the role I was able to organise and prioritise accordingly.
The role developed throughout the year and so did the level of responsibility I was given. I think this is one thing I will value the most looking back at y year at HP - Is the level of responsibility I held within the team.
Working in such a demanding environment and for a global company has definitely shaped me and given me skills I will acquire for life. More than anything it will be organisation and communications skills - though this may sound basic I know from my placement year here I have these skills on a higher level and will assist me within any role I look to pursue.
The Company
The atmosphere of the office was very inviting. There are no private offices within the building we all work in an open plan environment which really made a different and made the environment very lively. This could however be intimidating for people who are shy but as a positive can really build confidence which was the case for me!
The internship was set up well, however changes within the organisation affected some areas of the internship but in my case was fairly stable through the year.
I think this really depends on how pro active you are to want to have learned and developed more throughout the year.
