The Role
I really enjoyed working at Towers Watson. Everyone was really nice and helpful and the work was by and large enjoyable.
Everyone was always making sure that I was included in things, even down to just going for lunch and drinks.
My line manager and other colleagues were hugely receptive to any questions I had and were always asking to make sure I wasn't snowed under.
Some days were very quiet and others, particularly those involving client work, were a bit hectic. Overall a good mix. I think the quiet days were mostly down to it being summer.
I was given responsibility on a lot of client work which was nice. Sometimes all I would be able to contribute would be formatting etc but it was important.
I learnt a lot about working in a team and also honed my PowerPoint, Excel and other technical skills. My time management also improved.
The Company
Everyone was really nice and nobody shouts at one another or anything unpleasant. Really great atmosphere.
HR could do a lot more in terms of sourcing accommodation for those who do not live near the office and putting the interns in contact with one another before the internship. Within the office however the work days were well structured.
Subsidised Canteen
Very appealing. Although your starting salary isn't as high as an investment bank (where is..?) it's still pretty good for a recent grad. The people are brilliant and you get a lot of support to study for professional qualifications. The work is also very interesting and If you['re good you can progress quickly.
The Culture
Some interns kept to themselves but most of the others were great fun and we had a lot of great nights. Everyone at the office is very inclusive and we had a fair few great nights out organized for us by the graduates.
Pretty expensive as I was working in Westminster. Again, HR could really do a lot more in terms of helping you source accommodation. As the interns were only put in contact with one another in June it was too late for anyone to share a flat. As such everyone ended up living by themselves and paying exorbitant rent,
Really great area and always a great night out.
Not too many bar drinks after work. I think was more down to the timing of the internship however as there seems to be a lot of activities running throughout the year.
