The Role
Enjoyed working on different departments and gain valuable experiance.
Welcome as a team member and and well supported by the manager and the other colleagues.
Guidance and help were available any time for work related to the company and the team. Any other issues can also be discussed with manager if help were needed.
Depend on the work carried out by the team during the time period. Always had interesting work to involved in. Supervisor will manage the work load if there is too much work to handle.
Full responsibility was given toward completing projects with guidance. Directly involved in the real world engineering work and treated more like an engineer rather than a student.
Chance were given to join any king of training courses that were available for the employees of the company. Manager will also allocate to suitable training courses to gain certain personal and technical skills. 4.1.1. Team working Working in project teams vastly help to improve the ‘team work’ skills. It is important in anywhere, even in the university, to be a good team player to achieve the required goals in time. Dividing the work between team members and helping each other are very important in a team. It is also very important to give chance to the other’s ideas for the smooth progress of the task. 4.1.2. Communication skills Communication is a key skill any person would need in day to day work .Working in a placement year as a training engineer had helped to improve the technical communications. To share information between different department, persons and even with customers, it is important to have a good communication skill. The working experience that was acquired by working with professionals and by communicating with international teams was very useful towards improving ones communications skills. The opportunity to participate in the technical meetings also helped to gain much knowledge and experience. 4.1.3. Presentation skills. Presentation of the final results of a project and also the progress reports in weekly meetings to the manager has helped to improve the presentation style and techniques. The feedbacks from the engineers and team members were very useful to identifying the week points and improve on them. 4.1.4. Time management. Time management was one of the important skills which was learnt by working in a project team; certain tasks need to be completed in time frames. This is helpful in improving self-confidence and gives a better recognition among others. The skills gained in Time Management will definitely help studies and submitting reports at the University. 4.1.5. Technical and Engineering Skills. Technical skills include data analysing, researching, use of different software, designing and hands on work. Experience from these areas would be beneficial to understand real world problems and to solving them. When it comes to final year projects, these understandings will be helpful in designing higher efficient systems.
