The Role
I really enjoyed it, I found the work interesting as there was a lot of variety and all employees were friendly and approachable.
All of my colleagues made an effort to make me feel welcome and part of the team. I was invited to attend a groupling meeting where each member took the time to explain their role within the company.
I was assigned two "buddies" who had worked for the company for 1-2 years. They were always very helpful and willing to answer any question I had. Both of them ensured that I settled in well and that I had enough work to do. I also had a line manager who made it clear that I could always contact her if I had any problems. My line manager took the time to give me feedback halfway through the internship to ensure I was on track and give me time to make improvements if necessary.
I generally always had something to be getting on with. There was one afternoon where I found I had finished all my work but other than that I always had work to do. I never had too much work to do though so it was a good balance.
I was given a similar level of responsibility as a new graduate is given when they start. I was given client work to do from my first day which made me feel as though I was really part of the team.
The skills I developed will help me when I begin my career as an actuary as the work I was given is the type of work that is given to a new graduate.
The Company
All of my colleagues were really friendly and approachable, which made the office a nice place to work.
Everything was really well organised, we had an induction day with all interns from across the country which helped us to settle in. On my first day in the office I was shown to my desk which had been stocked with stationary and given my login details so I could get on my computer straight away. There were a few technical issues in that certain programs I needed weren't installed on my computer but this was relatively easy to sort.
I was given three training sessions on different technical aspects of actuarial work and I learned a lot through the work I was given. Each time I was given a piece of work, the task was explained clearly and my colleagues made the effort to ensure I understood the bigger picture and why the work was important.

It's hard to tell given that my internship hasn't finished yet but from what I've been told there's generally a good conversion rate.
The Culture
The social scene was really good, my colleagues went to the pub every Friday and there was a lunch with my whole floor. Moreover there was also the opportunity to get involved with the organisation's sports teams and the interns helped organise a pub quiz.
London is very expensive but whenever I went out with colleagues they bought me drinks, making the experience a lot more affordable.
London has a huge variety of places to go so the nightlife was really good, though it was very expensive.
I had the opportunity to play ultimate frisbee every week and myself and the other interns helped organise a pub quiz and a softball game.
