The Role
The placement was fantastic. Every day in the office was different! I had the chance to work on some exciting and challenging projects. There was a whole range of opportunities to get involved with! I even had the chance to attend a science conference!
I felt like a valued and respected member of the team as I was given business relevant projects to work on.
There was a 4-5 staff on a undergraduate team that looked after us, a mentor and a our dedicated line manager who I talked with on a regular basis and had monthly catch up meetings with
There was always work to get stuck in with
I managed my own projects and had the chance to represent BAT on two separate occassions. So lots!!!
This box is far too small to list the huge amount of training, experience and skills (technical and interpersonal) I've gained on placement. My biggest benefit for beyond placement is science engagement and presentational skills - which will really help me as a scientist.
The Company
Great working environment, everyone was very friendly and approachable
We had emails before the placement updating us and an induction 3 weeks before to meet the previous students and catch up with our line managers
BAT really value their students as it's placement scheme is integral to the business. So you are treated as a normal employee!!
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
They are good - lots of previous students work here
The Culture
There was twelve other placement students so we had regular social gatherings. We also gelled well with the rest of the staff at other gatherings and a range of work socials!
Very cheap compared to Reading university area!
Great - especially bedford placement
Lots - for example I had my first experience at a velodrome (cycling track) with some colleagues!! Scary but fun!
