    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a good job that I was motivated to turn up to and put effort into, I felt valued and that I was investing into a great future. Best of all I felt I could be (almost) completely myself and that colleagues were relaxed and friendly.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was integrated right into the team and did not feel temporary whatsoever. The work I was doing revolved around what everyone else was doing and it was as if I was permanent from day 1.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At Jaguar Land Rover teamwork is a key attribute, much of the work I do required the expertise of several different people all over the company, everybody is willing to help and go out of their way to help you get your work done.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Never a dull day! I was involved in several different work areas and continually juggling my efforts between them, sometimes with balance and often with emphasis on the more important jobs.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Compared to my shorter internship last year my work directly contributed to product development and so I was subject to the same deadlines and pressure as everybody else. Any work I was given was expected to be done to the standard of a full-time employee with any mistakes bringing considerable unwanted costs and delays. I was implemented into the team not as an intern but to replace a recently retired engineer who left a big set of shoes to fill.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I took a year away from my studies to improve how I manage my time and juggle multiple workloads at once. These were skills I had struggled with at university and needed to make drastic improvement with in order to be able to complete my Masters Degree. I also completed the internship to gain better understanding of how my education related to a real job. This has given me better insight of the aspects of final year of education I need to put in maximal effort to benefit me in the near and far future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was relaxed and friendly and help was always there when needed as well as a chance to chat and make friends. Much of my work meant I was out of my desk regularly, so often it was nice to be in the office and be able to sit down for even just an hour.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The transmission into the job was seamless except for IT issues which were inevitable as each work role required different systems access. Right from the application stage support was available and this went on right through till the end of the internship and even beyond.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was integrated into the team in a way which a full-time employee would have been, I received all the necessary training in order to do my job and never felt my status as an 'intern' prevented me from doing anything. The company did a very good job of showing me their intention of employing me in the future after my education and that what they were offering was an excellent opportunity.

    5/5

  • Great.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, though leading fairly active life outside of work meant i didn't engage with this so much for this internship.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reasonable

    4/5
