The Role
I couldn't of asked for a better work placement. I've had a great year, developed personally and professionally and made some great friends.
From day one I was welcomed into the company as a valued employee. My team were great and I feel privileged to of worked with them. They trusted me with my work and always appreciated everything I did which meant I was always motivated.
I had great support from my manager, she always made time to help me and have consistent catch ups and 1:1 sessions. If I was ever struggling with something we'd go through things together, she was always approachable.
My days were generally busy and at the end of every day I always managed to accomplish my tasks. There were times when things were extremely busy and I volunteered to work additional hours. However, I enjoyed the challenges and it's realistic to have busy periods, so I felt this developed me further.
Over my placement I had ownership of my own projects and took lead on many tasks. I was given great amounts of responsibility and I'm so pleased to have been trusted with important projects and tasks that have allowed me to boost my confidence in my own abilities.
I've learned lots of new knowledge that will help me in my final year of my degree as well as advancing the knowledge I did have by being able to apply it to my role. I've developed a wide range of new skills in a range of business areas that will help me in my degree and beyond.
The Company
There was a great balance in the atmosphere at the office. You're able to get work done, have quiet time but still speak with colleagues and build relationships.
For me, as it the placement wasn't too structured around it being 'a student placement' it gave me more of a realistic experience. My placement was set up just as any other employee's employment was which what I wanted.
They had lots of things on that you could get involved with to develop. I was on a personal development plan which encouraged me to develop certain skills. I attended lunchtime learning sessions and job shadowed other teams to learn more about the industry. I just wish I had a little more spare time to have done some more.

As the team isn't big, I think a job being available within the team is unlikely. If there was, I'd definitely consider coming back.
The Culture
There was many company events over my placement which were always fun. There was also several work socials and team nights out. I've made some great friends who I plan on staying in touch with.
Living in Manchester isn't cheap but due to the great transport links like the tram, rail and buses there are cheaper options just outside of the city. Socialising in Manchester can be as expensive or cheap as you like, there's a range of places to eat and drink to suit all budgets.
I love Manchester night life! There's many options to suit everyone whether you like pubs, bars or clubs.
Manchester has a variety of activities for people to get involved in. I joined the local gym which had fun fitness classes all through the week.
