    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a really good learning experience and after the placement year I feel that I achieved a lot. People are lovely in the office and everyone is up to give you a hand if you struggle even though yu would not necessarily wok directly with them.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was a member of the team and I had to complete certain task that someone else would build on later therefore, even when I was going on holidays I had to sort out who would do my job. My manager was asking for my opinion and I was listened to all the time.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The team consists of you and the manager as most of the other team members are spread around the world and you usually communicate with them over the phone. Therefore, it is a lot of supervision from a manager that is office based with you. You also get guidance from other team members but it is not that effective.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Usually, I was very busy before and after quarter closes and busy enough every day. When I found myself with no work, I asked my manager for more tasks and he would be happy to pass some of his work on me which was great experience to get more interesting and challenging jobs.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for the teleconference call with another team in Europe and I was there primary contact in UK, so they saw me as a leader which was nice. If they come to me with the question, I was expected to provide answers to them. It was challenging at the beginning, but very rewarding later on.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It will definitely help me in my future work. I feel that I was lucky to have a chance to work for GE. I developed skills that helped me to find another internship after my placement ended.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office itself is very nice as it is new, great location and all facilities you need. However, a lot of people work from home or travel a lot, so there aren't many people around you. It can be very very quite some days with hardly anyone around you.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It is a strange HR system that they have. Basically, I was recruited by the HR UK and my office HR did not know anything about me. However, the office HR lady was super nice so she was trying to do as much as she can to help me with any matters I had.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • First of all I had two weeks induction with the intern before me and then only e-learns.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are good opportunities to go and pursuit a position in FMP (Financial Management Program) however the recruitment process for this starts from the beginning so they kind of failed to link placement and grad scheme together.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only intern in the office

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Costs of living are high in Cambridge

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is not the best place to go clubbing, but I had enough fun with my friends going to different pubs and events as it is usually something on every weekend.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was opportunities to be involved in volunteering projects. I was working at school one day to help children in the gardening event. It was a good fun.

    4/5
