    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This placement has given me the opportunity to grasp first hand experience in working in the Rail Industry. Not only do I have a sound knowledge of the London rail network I have also developed a better understanding of how an engineering consultancy works.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I do feel valued. Colleagues were happy to show and give me relatively important tasks to perform. My supervisor would show me different people in different department. But from time to time, my colleagues will eventually get busy and usually at that time I don't feel valued.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Fantastic support guidance! Whenever I require assistance in a specific task, or overcome an issue or problem, everyone in the company is very helpful and willing to assist.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depends on whether I get given a job or if supervisor is away on leave.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Responsible for data logging items in a project, the logging procedure requires to be done carefully to ensure that data is accurate and correct as this may have an impact in the project.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Project Management has definitely been developed. Sure, I wasn't given a specific management project, however, after working in this department, the importance of project management becomes very immediate and obvious and from this I've understood/seen ways to manage projectswhich I could put to use in my university or in future career.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Probably because its a Summer placement, most folk are away on leave hence the office becomes relatively empty. But in general, there is good atmosphere around here.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It wasn't terribly well organised, my work and what I do depends on what is happening in the company. All the company knew was that I would be coming for summer. However despite saying so, they make attempts to give you tasks and jobs to do.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was not given any training courses.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office is in the South of London. Cost of accomodation requires roughly £550+, so its relatively expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It is in Croydon, thats where the London riots started off from. Colleagues here would recommend not going out at night as it is considered a "rough" area.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really, colleagues were mostly older than me and they have their own activities.
