The Role
Very Interesting and got a great insight into the banking industry.
Everyone was very welcoming and approachable and my project helped the team so everyone was happy to help.
I had weekly meetings with my line manager for feedback and guidance, but also wasn't too led which gave me the opportunity to be proactive and take responsibility for my own work.
I shadowed people at first and then got different tasks to do (presentations, etc) which did keep me busy and always had my project to work on on top of that. I always had something to do but I am the kind of person that likes being really busy so I feel I could've had a little more.
I had the responsibilty of planning how I was going to spend my time, organising all of my own meetings and chosing which direction I wasnted to take my project in.
I think I will definitely take the skills I have learned into my career- I have developed more excel skills and gained valuable experience in working for a big organisation and in an office environment.
The Company
Due to the nature of the work the office can sometimes be quite quiet and everyone is very hard-working but there is a good mix of personalities and everyone is very welcoming and approachable
I was given a handbook that had lots of useful information about key dates and contacts that I would need and a week by week guideline of what I should be achieving, However, this was made for a commercial or a retail placement and as I was in a corporate office some of the guidelines were not applicable.
I travelled down to England four times during my placement for induction, development and volunteer days and this was encouraged by HSBC. I was also appointed a buddy to make sure I had someone to go to with any questions. I also received regular updates from the emerging talent team.
National Travel
Very appealing job prospects and I have been kept well informed about the graduate schemes available.
The Culture
We regularly had lunch together and organised social events for after working hours.
I lived at home and socialising was not too expensive.
Variety of things to do to suit everyone.
There were lots of charity projects and committees that I had the opportunity to get involved in.
