The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. During the internship, I arranged meetings with numerous teams in different divisions, which gave me a real insight into different Lines of Businesses and how each contribute to such a global organisation.
As the team have been very busy over the summer months, I feel they appreciated the help I provided when offering to run deal requests. This not only gave them more time to work on their tasks, but also gave me experience modelling a variety of loan requests.
From very early on, my colleagues were very interested in training me on the deals they were working on. They were keen to share different projects with me, which has resulted in a very diverse experience.
Initially, I had very few tasks to work on. I used this time to research the Basel III and Capital regulations which is a big focus amongst the team. This provided me with a broad knowledge required when interpreting results from modelling loan requests.
As I started my internship, I told my managers I wanted to experience as much of the day-to-day tasks as possible. They were very keen to allow me to do this and asked the team to work with me on new deal transactions. As I became more confident with modelling the requests, I was given more responsibility to run these on my own.
I hope that as I go back to University, my experience at Bank of America Merrill Lynch will provide me with the financial knowledge I need for my chosen modules in Finance. Coming from a Mathematics degree, I am hoping I will be able to apply my experiences to fully understand the Financial Theory.
The Company
Generally quite quiet, which was welcomed when a task required deep concentration.
As soon as I arrived, I felt the internship was very organised. We were invited to multiple 'Speaker Series' arranged by the Campus Recruiters, which gave us all many opportunities to learn more about different divisions.
My managers are always happy for me to drop by their offices if I have any queries. We have arranged multiple catch-ups throughout my internship, which has given me the opportunity to let them know what I have been working on.

Many of the Senior Managers have worked in multiple offices around the world. The firm seem very keen for employees to work in numerous offices worldwide.
The Culture
Unfortunately my team have not had any social events during my internship. I have spent a lot of time socialising with the interns.
London is very expensive.
The bars and restaurants are very nice, but expensive.
Apart from a couple of sporting activities, there has not been much offered.
