The Role
I was quite nervous before the internship, as I had not worked in a corporate environment before. However my fears were quickly but to bed as the atmosphere was truly fantastic in the office - everyone seemed genuinely interested in answering any questions you would have.
The firm stresses a collaborative atmosphere and this was definitely reflected in the way myself and other interns were able to mesh quickly into live projects.
Support and help was there if needed - for example you could always chat to HR if anything cropped up (they also received regular updates on your progress).
I made a conscious effort to be helpful and remain occupied for the duration of the internship so there did seem to be work available at all times. Although it must be said that there were also many 'down' times.
Adequate amounts considering the limited experience of most interns.
It may sound cliché, but the internship has definitely taught me to prioritise tasks in front of me and be productive under intense pressure. I am certain that the situations that I was put in will prove to be beneficial in the future.
The Company
It was a very hard-working environment - most people were focussed on their work.
In general, a very well run ship - I was never in question about where I was meant to be or what I was supposed to be doing at any point. The talks on various parts of the firm were also very informative.
I do feel that a lot was invested on giving every intern the opportunity to experience life at BAML - I came away from it knowing that this was the career move that I wanted to make.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Very appealing!
The Culture
Aside from the drinks organised by BAML as part of the internship, many of the interns got together on Fridays after work for drinks etc.
London is expensive - I was fortunate enough to be able to commute from home.
London is the city that never sleeps - endless things to do at night and lots of fun to be had!
Dependent on the time you had available outside of your projects, you could be involved in one of the many sports teams at the firm or choose to do some volunteer work.
