The Role
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable six weeks with some great client exposure and a real insight into my chosen service line whilst being able to fully experience the company culture.
I felt as part of the team, being able to make a real contribution to the workload and valued as thought I was a first year.
I had numerous people who I could speak to when I needed advice or support from my Buddy to my counsellor to any other member of staff within EY as everyone was very helpful and willing to offer assistance.
I was often very busy, there was always an opportunity to take on more work and offload work depending on what experiences you wanted to gain and when you had a deadline to meet. Overall, the internship was structured to suit you and you sculpted the six weeks to ensure you could get the most out of it. There were a few challenges along the way that I did enjoy.
It depended on the individual/team you were working with but overall I was shocked as to how much responsibility you were given as though you were treated like a first year. You were given as much assistance as necessary but there was always the opportunity to take on further responsibility as and when you would like. It is all about communicating your expectations at EY, they will accommodate your needs!
I am far more confident in interacting with clients. Communication, teamwork, organisation and building relationships are just a few of the soft skills that are essential to every day tasks at EY. It is a company very people orientated. You learn life long skills, to be able to meet deadlines and understand the importance of the work you carry out to the client. The skills demanded are skills that will stand you in good stead for experiences inside and outside the EY environment.
The Company
There was always something going on. Cake sales, charity fund raisers, people joining, people leaving for secondments, daily newsletters and many other unique events. The atmosphere in the Glasgow office encouraged you to work whilst being able to enjoy yourself and have a bit of fun.
It was very well organised, the entire internship was structured and communicated to a very high level. I couldn't expect anymore, as any experiences I wished to organise during my time at EY was fully supported by all levels of employees.
From the induction to the final event, there was no expense spared. I was given a laptop, full access to all software and had everything that a full time employee would have. I couldn't have asked for more of a focus on personal development from conference calls to lunch and learn sessions.

With Vision 20/20 in mind, there is huge opportunity for growth within the company just now. There is a great focus on routes of progression and ensuring that you are always developing as an individual throughout your career. EY ensure that it is your career and if you want to make something happen, they will try accommodate this in any way they can.
The Culture
The social side to EY is an area that makes the job far more enjoyable. It is great to see so much going on in and outside of the office. During my six weeks I was involved in numerous dinners, lunches, EY Football team, commonwealth games and many other events.
A lot of it was subsidised and there was always free lunches and dinners courtesy of EY when new team members joined or was leaving for that matter. As I lived at home during the internship I cant really comment, however in relation to your salary it is manageable.
As I live in Glasgow, I am fully aware of the options in terms of nightlife. However, the offices are centrally located and it was great to see the merchant city festival which is an annual occurrence whilst being able to go out after work to the west end also which is just a short taxi or subway away.
Sports, west highland way, charity events, CSR days and many more. There is always something going on at EY and it is completely down to you to go and get involved. This is ideal as although I committed to the football team, if I was unable to make it one week due to working demands that was completely understandable.
