The Role
I enjoyed this placement - My first time working in Operations and I gained a good overview of the business function as well as had some challenging projects to keep me busy.
I really enjoyed working with my team, although they were very busy liasing with colleagues accross countries, which meant that sometimes I felt the independant project that I was doing meant I wasn't part of the teams day-to-day role.
Yes - good constructive criticism to help me improve, however not a huge amount of contact time as she was rather busy dealing with a number of countries.
The first part of my internship I was doing more Ad-Hoc tasks and was not too busy but the second half I was assigned a project which really filled my day - I tied that up in the very last week on my internship, so was busy until my last few days.
I was given a project to do improving processes and I thought that it might not be really valued when I left, however my Manager wanted all my recommendations implemented and was pleased with my progess - looking back I think that my work had a positive impact on my office.
Skills developed a lot - There was a lot of scope to do extra training, use different programmes and tools, meet new people, liase with senior colleagues and practice presenting in a number of formats, through using different software. I also learnt Yellow Belt Six Sigma Methodology and used this to gain an accreditation which will change the way I approach any problme solving project in the future.
The Company
Lots of cake, a friendly vibe and everyone very welcoming. To gather data I had to ask in a lot of favours and teams were very obliging.
It was well organised in general, however I think it would have been better if my when I arrived, I had a project to be thinking about. Instead I was given it about 4 weeks in, and I felt that I could have made even more of a change if I'd been able to look at it for longer. In general there were lots of intern days and socials to keep us all conencted over the duration of the internship.
I was enrolled in a Yellow Belt Lean Six Sigma course to enable me to do a project which would gain me a recognised accreditation. I did lots of other training and was also able to undertake community days to raise money for charity, as part of my paid contract.

I would love to work for HSBC in the future. The environment, culture and scope to progress and work worldwide really appeal to me.
The Culture
Lots of socials, quizzes etc organised by different people. There is a graduate charity committee who ensure team things are undertaking. The interns also have a good relationship with the Graduates accross all schemes so there is always something going on.
I had to drive quite far to work which meant I spent about £200 on petrol each month. I was able to live at home though, so my only other expenses were lunches and food on group days were usually provided.
I drove home every day so not much socialising, although my team did go out for dinner one night together.
Lots of charity events - sponsered walks, bike rides, weekly games etc. I know there was a football team and also some seasonal work do's.
