The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my 13-month placement at SAP, because of the numerous opportunities it has granted me, to experience the differing working components of an international organisation.
At SAP, "interns" are treated as real employees with real responsibilities, where if those roles were not completed then those business functions would fail. SAP recognises the work interns put into their roles through regular appraisals, reward schemes, and empowerment.
I was given regular opportunities to update my manager on the work I was allocated during my weekly 1-2-1 meetings. In addition to this, I was also trusted to work independently on my projects and could request additional help if/ when it was necessary.
At SAP you are given numerous roles and responsbilities, where providing you use your initiative and are proactive in your work, you can find more opportunities to develop.
My role allowed me to work in several different projects, and whilst I enjoyed participating in those roles, I requested to be included in an additional full time role. This was a position which isn't usually allocated to "interns"; however, I was trusted with the responsibility which then allowed me to see another aspect of SAP which I would have never had seen.
The main roles in my placement may not directly be assosciated with what I am studying (International Business), however, the soft skills and practical thinking I have developed during my time on placement will be utilised in my final year and in other placements/ careers to come.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is very friendly and welcoming, which is great for a new starter. The levels of authority in SAP are not an excuse to avoid approaching people in person, as everyone is open-minded to help others.
There is a clear two month handover period between old and new interns which helps to ease in new starters into a full time working environment which they may not be used to.
I have participated in numerious training programs as a result of asking around and finding the relevant topics to involve myself in, via SAP's training portal. These training programs can vary in learning where you can choose to develop soft skills or enhance your technical knowledge of SAP.

Currently there is a SAP academy which looks to develop young graduates into qualified SAP sales employees.
The Culture
Having a high number of interns each year (+30), new starters can easily organise nights out/events for everyone to participate in.
Living near London, applicants should expect London prices.
I lived in Staines and although the housing is cheaper, I had to journey to Winsdor or Richmond for a decent night out.
Yes, there is Wednesday football after work on wednesdays and there is also Netball for girls on a Tuesday. Both sports are organised by members of SAP, and encourage as much participation as possible from everyone in the office.
