The Role
I really don't want to leave! There was no point during my internship with M&G where I didn't look forward to coming into work.
I felt incredibly valued in my time here. This was really important to me because I didn't just want to learn a lot, I also wanted to give something back to my team & the company.
M&G have a great support system set up for interns. Not only did I have regular check-ins with HR, my manager was also really consious that I got as mcuh as I could out of the internship, and had regular catchups with me to ensure I was happy with my workload/ could help me with anything else. I was allocated a 'buddy' and had fornightly meetings with a member of staff within a different IS team. All the other members and extensions from my team were also really supportive and were happy to answer any questions.
My workload did vary depending on how much analysis certain tasks required and to what deadline I was working with. However, I was rarely twiddling my thumbs. In the time where I didn't have things to do, my manager quickly found me something interesting to keep me busy.
I was given quite a lot of responsibily. I provided the team with valuable analysis for a large project - things which any full time analyst would have worked on. I also organised a team away day, and worked on smaller scale projects. This provided some great variety.
M&G provide some excellent training. I have learnt a great deal which will definitely benefit me in my future career. I have also developed some important skills which I know will help me in my final time on my degree. I came on this internship with no previous IS experience, but have come away with a vast quantity of new knowledge and skills,.
The Company
The office is incredibly friendly and the IS floor always seems to be buzzing somewhere. People recognise a new face and introduce themselves to you which is really lovely. It is a very supportive enviroment, you truely feel like they want to teach you as much as they can.
The overall internship had a great set up. HR did a good job at organising social activities, and also introductory sessions to various areas of the business. Despite being in IS I also attended sessions on Equities, Fixed Income, Marketing etc.
I feel like the company invested a lot in me. Like I said earlier, you truely feel like they want to teach you as much as they can. M&G want you to learn, and gain as much from this internship as possible.

I would love to come back and work for M&G. I don't want to leave and I'm itching to come back already.
The Culture
There was a great group of interns this year, and I spent a lot of time out of the office with some of them. I've definitely made friends that I'll keep in touch with in the future. I've also attended after work drinks with colleagues and additionally placed a few netball matches with the M&G team, which was so much fun!
London is expensive, there is no way around it. But I was lucky to find some great priced accomodation on 'Spareroom.com' and kept living costs to a minimum. Transport is a big spend, but there is no way around it. London prices- it's just something you have to get used to.
Lots of lovely bars for after work drinks, despite being a little pricey.
I was involved with the M&G netball team, and I also know they have cricket, football and softball teams. HR put on some great after work activities such as an intern treasure hunt.
