The Role
I was given a good variety of work, some of which played into my technical abilities which was nice.
My colleagues were friendly, but since I performed predominantly ad-hoc tasks for different colleagues I didn't get the opportunity to get to know them particularly well.
If I ever had any questions I could ask and receive a satisfactory answer, but not much more support beyond that. I would have liked a proper training/introductory session. (I had a very informal one with a colleague before he left.)
Since I was predominantly doing ad-hoc work this meant the amount of work I received had a high variance. But generally I was not as busy I would have liked.
I was trusted; the work I was doing was very similar to that of a full-time graduate.
I have learnt a lot about the insurance industry and risk modelling which will be useful.
The Company
My team was generally hard-working. So while I wouldn't exactly say the "fun never stopped" it definitely wasn't "dull" in the normal sense of the word. My colleagues were outgoing and friendly which made a nice working atmosphere; everyone seemed to be enjoying the work.
Had major IT issues during my first week; would have been a lot better if things could have been set up properly prior to my arrival. Also I feel the lack of any official objective-setting or mid-internship review system is a missed opportunity. Otherwise things went smoothly.
As I mentioned it would have been nice to receive some official training/introductions to the more technical side of my role.
Hard to say at this point in time! I hope I am made an offer of employment.
The Culture
Unfortunately nothing official organised by the company! I feel this is a missed opportunity for intern bonding. We had unofficial social events but given the extortionate price of London (especially given our pay...) these were fairly innocuous.
London unfortunately is not cheap and even more unfortunately our pay did not seem to reflect this.
See above comments... Also my team were not huge on night life.
Our CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Project, which was well-organised, was a nice chance to get involved with some charity work outside the office.
