The Role
Ultimately, it was a very worthwhile and beneficial experience. It has given me a much clearer insight into the day to day working life of a Facultative Reinsurance broker. It had also helped to me realise that this is something that I would seriously consider doing in the future, beyond university. There were some moments when I felt slightly out of my depth, however I was regularly assisted by my colleagues to overcome some of the things that I didnt quite fully underdstand. We learn by doing! To reiterate, it was an experience that has helped me to assess what I want for my future. I hightly reccomend joining up to the Summer Internship scheme.
At the end of the day, there is only so much an intern can do in the space of a 9 week programme. However, for the most part, I considered myself to be of a good value to my colleagues. They trusted me to complete relevant tasks which proved that they valued me. Team building lunches and activities made me feel very welcome and part of the family here.
In a very busy environment, help is not always freely available. However, my colleagues and supervisor helped me when they could if I ever came unstuck. At the end of the day, there's not too much more you can ask for. This help was a significant part of my education process concerning the field of Facultative Reinsurance.
During my 9 weeks, we we're issued a charity project which was a constant factor to contribute much of my work toward. So essentially, I was never truly left with nothing to do. It was a very useful and constructive exercise. In terms of office work, I was available to help with admin based tasks and as my education and confidence grew, was given greater obhectives and more adventurous things to do. Whilst I cannot say that I was consistently given tasks to do in the office, I never felt that I was bored or out of place. There was always something else to be done.
Again, being an intern, its unlikely that you will receive heaps of responsibility, especially in your first few weeks. However, within the working environment, as time went on, my responsibilities grew. I came across as more capable to my colleagues and thus they trusted me to carry out some more advanced tasks. One of note, was going into Lloyd's and independently broking my first deal.
Less so towards my degree, but the skills I have picked up here and through what I have observed, will undoutedly assisst me in the future. My aim is to return to the insurance/reinsurance industry. This internship has given me an effective insight into what goes on, and whilst I was not able to go into greater depth concerning some of the finer runnings of this kind of business, I feel I have a good enough understanding to continue and to further my knowledge and experience.
The Company
Very welcoming, despite going through very busy periods. We worked hard, yet we also took time out to enjoy ourselves and build a better relationship as a team. This was a very pleasant aspect of my time here.
Well organised. It was run very well by the early careers team. We were given an itinerary which we had to firmly stick to, which gave me as an intern, objectives to strive towards.
Whilst I felt that my education of the industry has grown substantially, I think more training sessions, which covered specifics could have been included.

Very, as previously stated, this is something I can see myself doing and comitting to in the future. I hope my activities over the past 9 weeks have exemplified my enthusiasm and will make me a candidate to consider for the future.
The Culture
yes. Fellow interns and work colleagues we're always eager to engaue in social aspect both within the working day and outside of it.
No living costs as I commuted from my home. However, in the London area, things were fairly expensive regarding social events.
Busy but fun!
These were faily regular, happening every week or 2 weeks.
