The Role
SAP has provided a great foundation for my career. Working in such an innovative office with like-minded people has been a amazing experience. My role in particular provided large exposure across the company and many opportunities for development.
The people I worked with, and other colleagues I got to know, treated me as an equal and respected my opinions. As I gained more confidence in my role, I started to take on more responsibilities and felt I made an impact.
There is an official SAP Buddy scheme, which assigns each intern an official 'Buddy' who can support you throughout the year. Although, I found that almost everyone was willing to help and offer advice.
As with any job, there are busy and quiet periods but I found the balance at SAP to be very good.
After the first 6 months, I started to be given a lot more ownership. The first 6 months were great for training and personal development, ensuring I was ready for the responsibility. By the end of my placement I was beginning to manage my own programs.
The skills I learnt were transferable for beyond my degree such as business etiquette and how a large corporate company functions. Also, I have found that I have gained a strong work ethic which will help towards my degree completion.
The Company
The Intern Community is strong at SAP and keeps the office environment always active. The office is completely open-plan which is great for communication. The new office features an 'Experience Centre' which includes a McLaren car simulator among other high-tech experiences - great for a break!
There is an official onboarding period which last a few weeks. This covers presentations, training, team-building activities and hints & tips. This is completely ran by current interns so really provides a great opportunity to learn and ask questions. At times, I have had to seek extra work when I felt ready - but this was always received well.
I never received any 'formal' training qualifications, but there was always opportunities to join SAP weekly training calls from everything to Learning how to Blog to Becoming Socially Active.

There is a fantastic opportunity to join the SAP Sales Academy which involves training in California for 3 months. However, there are no official graduate roles in other business functions but interns have been rehired as full-time employees in the past, many teams often seek to rehire their interns.
The Culture
The Intern socialise very often and strong friendships have been built. We have organised Ski holidays together, weekends out in London, Meals, End of Year Formal etc.
The area is much cheaper than central London but still isn't 'cheap as chips'. I found it to be the perfect balance - as central was less 30 minutes away but accommodation was still affordable.
Feltham, where the office is based, has no nightlife. However, we frequently went for 'after work drinks' in local areas such as Richmond & Twickenham which are much more suitable and had a nice variety of bars.
When we started there was a Football team (with the potential to travel to Germany for SAP WorldCup) and Interns decided they wanted an SAP Netball team also - which they set up and was very successful. The opportunities are almost endless, if there is something you want to set up, go for it.
