The Role
I have really enjoyed my internship. I had a great team who gave me feedback and support along the way. There were also many sociable activities that I attended and really enjoyed.
I was made to feel part of the team from the word go. They never treated me any differently to the rest of the members in the team, and I felt they valued the work I completed.
I always felt supported by my manager, and if I had any difficulties I always felt I could ask. I also had weekly feedback meetings with my manager.
Towards the end of the placement when I had completed my project I found that I was struggling to keep busy.
I never had my own project, but I was responsible for tasks within the project.
Everything I learned, from time-management skills, to knowing my strengths and weaknesses, and using tools such as Excel will all help me in my degree studies and beyond. Even the mind set of being more pro active and the increased self confidence that I have gained will assist me.
The Company
I was lucky enough to have
The internship was very well organised. The Dragons Den where we picked what placement we wanted went well and so were the development exercises throughout the 10 weeks. However, I did have to wait a while to be set up for a couple of programmes on my computer and was not able to gain access to the printers.
The company had many development exercises throughout the placement, such as Strengths Finder, Networking Talks and Presentation skills. The feedback meetings with your manager, streamhead and buddy also helped your personal training and development.

Standard Life have excellent employment prospects. They have the grad scheme, and after this you can go straight into a job. Progressing in your career within Standard Life is important to them and you are encouraged to find a coach to help you push yourself and your career.
The Culture
I socialised with the other interns nearly every day after work and weekends.
It depends on where you go... I live in Edinburgh before I worked here for my internship so I knew the cheap places to go. However, certain places are very expensive. Being able to work to work really helped keep costs down.
I am a student in the city that I was working in, so I knew of the good nightlife places to go to.
There are lots of activities you can be part of within the company, or you can organise sociable activities with your collegues. Everyone was keen to get involved.
